Ed Sheeran – Don’t - live looping with Cubase 5 On the left side of the video you can see what I’m doing in Cubase while I’m singing on the right side First of all sorry for the mistakes in the lyrics. That was my first loop video and I was concentrating on the recording stuff.  Description: For looping in the Cubase 5 you need some basic preparation. You need to create a lots of channels in advance (if you know exactly how much you will use that’s the best) I used 8 channels for the loop 1 for the solo and 2 groups to be able to turned them out in the first part of the verse. In order to be able to monitor your voice you need an external soundcard where you can set monitoring and you don’t have to use it in the software. Why is that important? You have to set cycle mode in Cubase and set the settle points for as many beat as many you need for your song.(I used 8 beat) The only way you can record like with real loop pedal is to record the first beat on the first channel then click to second. Now you can see the record button changed to the 2nd channel and started to record your second beat while the first one already plays. The only problem is how to listen to yourself cause you can’t use monitoring in cubase. When you click on the second channel it automatically stop recording on the 1st channel and start to record on the second but you have time for only one little click. It’s impossible to click out monitoring on the first and click in, on the second. That would be 3 clicks… As I said you should use extarnal soundcard. I am using M-Audio fast track 8tr consquently I can listen to my voice independently from Cubase. You can see in the left side of my video that monitoring is always turned off. If you would like to create a song where you don’t need different parts e.g verse and ref than you are done now and be able to do it. If you would like to use more „banks” that you can turn off easily any time you want, you need to create different groups in Cubase in advance. I named all the channels not to forget what I want to record There are some basic patterns what will go through your whole record like beats, bass and guitarlike sounds. But e.g in my record I turned off „group huu-s” in the begining of the verse and before the the ref I turned it on. The most difficult part was that I need „alalala” only in the second half of the 8 beat directly before ref I turned on than out and so on. (whatch channel 10 and 11 in my video) When you would like to finish your song you need to turn off cycle mode and it will not start it again from the begining. Like this you can create music live but if you would like to record your solo part of the song and afterwords create a finished song than you need to work with it a bit. Watch your channels and start to put your beats in the right place. Your first beat should be in the first beat on the first channel and repeated till your song finished. Second beat starts in the second beat of the project on the second channel repeated till the end….etc. If you used groups like me than you have to cut the patterns out when you turned of the group. I know it sounds quite difficult and surely it’s easier to loop with external pedal but if create music like this you can use anything (midi controller, instruments) but you have to prepare everything in advance (for which channel which of your input you will use,if you use midi instruments you need to set the exact vst-s) So it’s a big challange for those who are really interessted in creating special things.
