I will have to pay quarterly taxes this year and am frustrated with how things work in general. I don't understand why I can't just send in my taxes based on my actual income each quarter! Estimating seems ridiculous to me.

Now, as far as estimating goes, couldn't I just estimate based on whatever my taxes wound up being on my 1040 for 2022? That seems to be so straight forward. However, I am not sure if I would estimate quarterly payments based on my 2022 1040 line 24 or line 37. Any thoughts?
