Russian President Vladimir Putin met with head of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov on Friday to discuss the current situation in the Russian space industry and plans for the future. Borisov reported about the current state of the Russian space group, the plans for a lunar program and the construction of a new Russian space station. He said Russian-produced space engines had been affected by sanctions against Russia but they were now in demand in countries such as China, India and Africa. Russia's first moon mission in 47 years failed after its Luna-25 spacecraft spun out of control and smashed into the moon, Russia's state space corporation Roskosmos said on Sunday. The agency added that it had lost contact with the craft shortly after a problem occurred as the craft was shunted into pre-landing orbit on Saturday. Space expert and owner of the Telegram channel "Dobriy Ovchinnikov" Ilya Ovchinnikov said that the failure of Russia's Luna-25 space mission is unlikely to be perceived as a huge setback and that the team that worked on it will be learning from their mistakes. Roskosmos said it had lost contact with the craft at 11:57 GMT on Saturday. after a problem as the craft was shunted into pre-landing orbit. A soft landing had been planned for Monday. Russia's state space corporation said a special inter-departmental commission had been formed to investigate the reasons behind the loss of the Luna-25 craft, whose mission had raised hopes in Moscow that Russia was returning to the big power moon race. Russian space agency Roscosmos released on Tuesday (August 8) footage of final preparations before the launch of its Luna-25 space mission, which is set to deliver a lunar lander to the Moon for the first time since 1976. The launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome, 3,450 miles (5,550 km) east of Moscow is expected on Friday (August 11) and will take place four weeks after India sent up its Chandrayaan-3 lunar lander, due to touch down at the pole on August 23. Russian space agency Roscosmos said in reply to questions from Reuters that the spacecraft would take five days to fly to the moon and then spend five to seven days in lunar orbit before descending on one of three possible landing sites near the pole - a timetable that implies it could match or narrowly beat its Indian rival to the moon's surface. Roscosmos said the two missions would not get in each other's way because they have different landing areas planned. "There is no danger that they interfere with each other or collide. There is enough space on the moon for everyone," it said. Chandrayaan-3 is due to run experiments for two weeks, while Luna-25 will work on the moon for a year. Astronaut Loral O'Hara, a member of NASA's 2017 astronaut candidate class, is set to launch on her first mission to space Friday, Sept. 15. O'Hara and Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub will lift off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft. The Soyuz is scheduled to launch at 11:44 a.m. EDT (1544 UTC) Friday, Sept. 15. NASA TV coverage will begin at 10:45 a.m. After a two-orbit, three-hour journey, the Soyuz will dock to the International Space Station's Rassvet module at 2:56 p.m. (1856 UTC). O'Hara is scheduled to spend six months aboard the station while Kononenko and Chub are scheduled to spend a year on the orbital outpost. Russia launched its first moon-landing spacecraft in 47 years in a bid to be the first power to make a soft landing on the lunar south pole, a region believed to hold coveted deposits of ice water. A Soyuz 2.1v rocket carrying the Luna-25 craft blasted off from the Vostochny cosmodrome, east of Moscow, at 2:11 a.m. local time on Friday. The lander is due to touch down on the moon on Aug. 23, Russia’s space agency said. Two Roscosmos cosmonauts will conduct a spacewalk to upgrade the International Space Station. The spacewalk is expected to begin about 10:45 a.m. EDT, 14:45 UTC, and last up to seven hours. Expedition 69 crewmates Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin will venture outside the station’s Poisk airlock to attach three debris shields to the Rassvet module. They also will test the sturdiness of a work platform that will be affixed to the end of the European robotic arm attached to the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module. The spacewalk will be the eighth for Prokopyev, who will wear an Orlan spacesuit with red stripes, and the sixth for Petelin, who will wear a spacesuit with blue stripes.

The docking at the ISS at the Rassvet module of the ISS is planned for September 15, 18:56 UTC/GMT, which means the transfer flight to the ISS will take only a bit more than 3 hours from launch to docking. Russia’s first moon mission in 47 years failed after its Luna-25 spacecraft smashed into moon on Aug 20. Roskosmos, Russia’s space corporation, said it had lost contact with the craft shortly after a problem occurred. This development came soon after the craft was shunted into pre-landing orbit on Aug 19. An incident occurred, while the spacecraft was trying to enter a pre-landing orbit according to Roscosmos. Interestingly, Russia had not attempted a moon mission since Luna-24 in 1976. Luna-25 was supposed to execute a soft landing on the south pole of the moon on Aug 21, as per Russian space officials. Luna-25 took off from the Vostochny launch facility in Russia’s Far East, the Russia-based TASS news agency reported. Meanwhile, India’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is on track. Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023 (Wednesday). Грузовик пристыковался к модулю «Звезда» российского сегмента Международной космической станции — 25 августа в 06:45 мск. «Прогресс» доставил на МКС 2 491 кг грузов, среди которых топливо, укладки для экспериментов, питьевая вода, еда и одежда для космонавтов.
