DNS (Domain Name System) - Explained , Types of Domain Name Servers | How DNS works | TechTerms

Learn about DNS, DNS Server or DNS name server, DNS lookup, what is dns server and how it works, how DNS server or Domain Name System works. DNS or Domain Name System translates domain names to their IP addresses so that browsers can load the requested website. Servers are computers storing HTML files, images, sounds, videos or any other file types. Servers that work together to provide IP address of the requested website to the web browser are called DNS servers. Notes : 🤍 Facebook : 🤍 DNS resolver connects the web browser of our computer to the DNS name servers. There are 13 sets of root name servers, logically named as, where Letter ranges from ‘a’ to ‘m’, and are operated by 12 different organizations. Each set has a number of servers placed around the world. TLD name server stores the information of all domain names sharing a common domain extension. Authoritative name server is the last server in the Domain Name System. It stores the IP address of the requested website When we purchase a domain name from a registrar, Registry updates the authoritative name server for the purchased domain in the TLD name server. So, when TLD name server receives a DNS query, it forwards DNS resolver to the correct authoritative name server. DNS servers eliminate the need for humans to memorize these complex IP addresses. The only thing we need to memorize is the domain names which are easier to remember. #TechTerms Must learn: DHCP Protocol : 🤍 ARP Protocol : 🤍 DNS Explained : 🤍 OSI Model : 🤍 IP Address : 🤍 NIC : 🤍 Network Protocol : 🤍 Network Topology: 🤍 Network Router : 🤍 Network devices : 🤍 Firewall : 🤍 Firewall types : 🤍 Firewall vs : 🤍 Firewall working : 🤍 Firewall limits : 🤍 Domain name : 🤍 LAN cable : 🤍 Hostname : 🤍

It's an unsung hero that allows us to use the internet in the simplest way possible. Without DNS, our connected lives would look very different. DNS will take our domain name, and translate, or resolve it, into an IP address. Let's say you want to go to your favourite website, so you type, 🤍 Remember, web servers do not work with domain names, so your computer needs to translate this into an IP address. The first thing it does is check its local cache both on the computer and the browser. There’s also a local configuration file that's checked. If there are no cache entries, your computer will send a query to something called a DNS recursive resolver asking for the IP address of Once the DNS resolver receives your query, it checks its cache. If it can’t find an entry for, it will send a request to another server, this is called a ROOT server. The root server will then refer us to the top-level domain server (TLD) for .com. A TLD server is a server that contains information for domains with a specific extension. For example .com .org .net etc The TLD server will then refer us to the authoritative nameserver. The authoritative nameservers will have a record for and it will return the IP address to our DNS Resolver which will then send it back to our computer. Out computer will now be able to contact the webserver using the newly discovered IP address. #ccna #cisco #networking

Web Hosting Tutorial for Beginners: Domain Registration, DNS & How to Host a Website Explained

What is web hosting and how does it work? In this tutorial, I'll explain how domains & web hosting function together with DNS settings to host your website. By changing the nameservers at your domain registrar, you point your domain to any web hosting company. The most affordable choice is HostGator for web hosting. 🌎 How to Install WordPress in Minutes 👉 🤍 ✅ Start now with HostGator 👉 🤍 Once you understand how web hosting works, we'll discuss the difference between the package types offered by all major web hosting providers including Shared, Reseller, Virtual Private Server (VPS), Dedicated, Cloud, & Managed WordPress. There are pros & cons to each, and you'll learn how to choose a web host that fits your situation. A complete beginner should start with a cheap shared hosting plan because it will take you time to design a great website and build traffic to it. Only then will you need to upgrade to a better web host or plan! 1) How Websites Work The first step to launch a website is registering the domain name under a domain registrar (i.e. HostGator or GoDaddy). Today, it might be hard to get your preferred one or two-word domain name. There is an entire business industry to purchasing thousands of domain names (automatically via software) and selling them to people and/or companies who must get their brand domain regardless of the cost! Three-word domains are more widely available – the main principles I follow are: keep them short, memorable, easy to say, and stick with COM extension unless you have a specific need for another extension. Once you register your domain name, the next step is to create your web hosting account with a company like HostGator. Most companies offer all services – domain registration, web hosting, design options, plus others. I recommend that you take care of both domain and web hosting with HostGator to simplify the setup process. Upon creating your web hosting account, your hosting platform will send you their “nameservers” along with a link to login to your web hosting control panel (cPanel). Let's explain how domain name system servers (DNS) work. It’s simple, however, it’s a confusing concept to website beginners. Domain registration companies give you access to “DNS settings” for each domain. This points a domain name to whatever web hosting company you choose. So when you receive the nameservers from your hosting company via email, all you need to do is copy/paste them into your domain DNS settings. The function of the DNS server is to translate your domain name into an IP address! When you update your DNS settings at the domain registrar, it can sometimes take 24-48 hours for these to “propagate” to all DNS servers located around the world. NOTE: If you register your domain and set up hosting with HostGator, you don’t need to worry about this step because it’s good to go when your account is created. Thus, when you as a visitor go to your browser and type in a domain name, the domain name is sent to the DNS server. The DNS server then maps it to the IP address of your web host (which you specified via the custom nameserver), and all the files making up your website are downloaded to the user’s browser for them to view. 2) What is Your Goal? People create an online presence for personal reasons and there aren’t many good excuses to NOT create your first website! You may want to accomplish one of several things with your website, so it’s important to define your specific needs to quickly pick the best hosting type for your online platform. Some good questions to ask yourself are: Are you creating one website only? Do you have a vision for many websites? What software? (i.e. WordPress, builders, templates, code) High traffic (global) vs. low (local)? TIP: Remember you can upgrade your hosting package for more space, speed or features. There is nothing wrong with starting a small site on a budget and growing as you see more traffic. Nameservers in DNS - What are...

Nameservers are the database servers that store and provide your DNS information for Internet clients. You Domain Registrar sends your DNS configurations to the nameservers. Generally you use the nameservers provided by your ISP, but may change them if you are required to by a cloud platform, or if you have the need to manage your own nameservers.
